North Somerset Arts Week is in Full Swing

Thanks to all who have visited over the week so far, it’s been a great success and I’m looking forward to seeing more of you over the remainder of the week. I’m open 10-5 up to and including Sunday 11th May. I’m at North Somerset Arts week venue 4 and you can wander down to Black Nore lighthouse through my garden in the same visit.

I’m lucky to have Andrew Hardwick RWA exhibiting with me. Portishead is his hometown and it’s the first time in his long career that he’s exhibited in the town.

It’s a great chance to see his work and to see my latest larger seascapes and some paintings of the local area that don’t get taken to other art trails or fairs. if you can’t make it this weekend then I’ll be at the BS9 Arts trail at Redmaids school 7-8th June.

I’ve also been lucky enough to get a painting accepted into the New English Art Club exhibition which goes on show in the Mall Galleries in London from the 12th of June.

Exhibition and Course News and Building Up to North Somerset Arts Week

Just a quick update on where you can see my work and news on courses.

Where you can find me…

I’ve just had a successful Bath Art Fair back in February and you can see my latest plein air paintings including those painted in Bath at the Bath Contemporary Art Fair which is at Green Park Station this coming Sunday the 13th 10-5pm.

I’ll have some of the larger abstract seascapes there that I was working on over the winter using much more texture and glazes than my plein air oil work.

Passage

The Clevedon Art Club Show and Sell is also on currently and runs until the 15th of April, 10-4pm. It’s at the beautiful science atrium at Clevedon School again and always looks superb, I’ll have two local views there and some unframed lifeclass work.

If you really want to see all of what I’ve been doing over the last year then ink North Somerset Arts week in your diary from 3-11 May. I’ll be opening my studio here in Portishead and have invited Andrew Hardwick, member of the RWA to exhibit here too. I can’t wait to see his work here myself. Andrew is very well known for his imposing, heavily textured landscapes full of emotion, https://www.andrewhardwick.com. Coincidentally and very excitingly Andrew and I have both just been elected member’s of the Bath Society of Artists.

I’ve had two seascapes selected for the Wales Contemporary Exhibition and it’s moved on from London to the Waterfront Gallery in Milford Haven, if you’re heading in that direction drop in.

Courses coming up

I’m running some Plein Air painting days on Black Nore beach again this year, the dates for this year are the 15 and 16th of June (https://ianpriceart.co.uk/oil-painting-outdoors/).

If you can’t make these then I can do one to one sessions or take a group of friends out. I recently ran a painting session bought as a birthday gift and we both had a great day helped by this lovely recent weather.

Andrew James is back for his 24rd (!) Expressive Portrait painting course in Portishead this Autumn. He’ll be tutoring 2 day and 3 day courses with different models on each, 22nd to 26th of October. We’re very lucky to have him, he won the LeClerc Medal for portraiture at last year’s Royal Portrait Society show, one of the professions top accolades. I’ll be running a portrait course a couple of weeks before on the 13th-14th October also with a live portrait model, this will take less experienced painters through the drawing basics and how to develop towards painting, it also provides a chance to use oil paint for the first time. All course details here https://ianpriceart.co.uk/courses/

Thanks for continuing to support me in only my second year as a full time artist.

Grab a space on Capturing a Likeness in Drawing

I’ve some spaces left on the Capturing a Likeness in drawing course this weekend (16/17 March) in Portishead.

I’l have different and contrasting models on Saturday and Sunday, they are both really great to draw and challenging in different ways.

The day is 9-4pm. Details here, https://ianpriceart.co.uk/portraits-capturing-a-likeness-in-drawing/

If you would like to do one day only or prefer to work in oils let me know. One day would be half price.

The painting course the following weekend is full but I’ve more dates in the autumn.

I’ll be back I touch when I get the landscape course dates fixed.

Group Show at the Lido Cafe in Portishead & more

I’m excited to be taking part in the inaugural show of a new groups of artists and painters in Portishead that go under the banner Portishead Arts. We  have a
website where you can find details of the other artists involved.

Portishead Lido flyer

There’ll be a great range of work on show including painting, photography, jewellery and illustration so come along and enjoy a slice of cake and perhaps even have a dip in the Lido.

The show will be on for over a week from Thurs 22nd to Friday 30th of September the lido is open 9.30 to 6.30 every day (later on Monday mornings I think), I’m planning on stewarding on both the Fridays, I might take my painting kit along to paint the estuary in any quiet periods, so come and say hello.

For this show I’m focussing on local scenes, pretty much all painted within a mile of the Lido. My painting of the lido is the top right image on the flyer above.

Here’s a recent one painted after a last minute decision to walk down and catch the last light at Black Nore lighthouse. I’m so pleased I did, once again I was painting over a failed painting so it was doubly therapeutic, I’m so lucky to have this on my doorstep.

As well as these outdoor paintings I’ll have a couple  of larger works that were painted back in the studio, such as Winter Wave.

The Autumn is always an exciting period with so many shows on, I’m lucky enough to have had a painting selected for the ING Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London which is coming up in November. More news in the next post!

I hope to see you at the show. Don’t forget you can also follow me on twitter and now Instagram @ianpriceart as well as Facebook.

More Portishead Seascapes ready for arts week #art #painting #landscape

Been painting a few more plein-air landscapes on the beach in Portishead. I went down a few weeks ago wondering what to paint and thought I’d base a picture around the two fishermen I could see.

I decided to pack in when I couldn’t feel my fingers any more, which only took about 45 minutes, luckily this was the same time the fisherman left. They’d spotted me painting and were enthusiastic about taking a look leaving the beach and were keen enough to take take the site details from me. So, as promised, here it is following a small about of remedial work to make the sea horizontal!
